Miami, Florida-- February 9, 2005. The Producer of the new educational documentary “The ABC’s of Eating Disorders,” Joanna Popper will be on Despierta America, the number one morning show among U.S. Hispanic audiences in a segment on eating disorders. Other guests include some of the people interviewed in the documentary, eating disorder experts and possibly Latin celebrities who have struggled with eating disorders in the past.
Producer Joanna Popper says “There has not been as much education and awareness in the Latin community on eating disorders as in the general market and this will be a very informative, educational and enlightening show. Eating disorders have traditionally been thought of as only an issue in certain demographic groups, but unfortunately now they have spread to other groups such as men, African-Americans, Latin-Americans, young children, middle aged women, so it is very important that Univision cover this epidemic now. Also National Eating Disorder Week is coming up February 27 to March 3, so the timing is perfect.”
“The ABC’s of Eating Disorders” Documentary is an intimate look at eating disorders with anorexics, bulimics and compulsive overeaters sharing their lives, stories and struggles. Health professionals from the Renfrew Center and Milestones in Recovery explain eating disorders, their causes, risks, prevention and recovery.
The documentary was made to increase awareness about eating disorders and encourage recovery. It is now also available with Spanish subtitles and easily accessible to the Latin community. It is being used by individuals, treatment centers, health professionals and schools currently.
