Miami, Florida-- February 14, 2005. The Producer of the new educational documentary “The ABC’s of Eating Disorders,” Joanna Popper was on Despierta America, the top rated weekday daybreak program in a segment on eating disorders. Raul Gonzalez, who has struggled with compulsive overeating, hosted the thought-provoking, educational segment. Other guests included Terry Zarikian, Anya Ellerbrook and Josie Goytisolo, who were interviewed in the documentary film about their struggles with eating disorders and Nutritionist Rullina Acra from the Renfrew Center and Psychotherapist Martha Moreno from the Coral Gables Counseling Center.

Producer Joanna Popper said “This was a very informative, educational and enlightening show and we were happy that Univision covered this important issue. There has not been as much education and awareness in the Latin community on eating disorders since these issues traditionally been seen as affecting only young, Caucasian girls. Unfortunately now they have spread to men, African-Americans, Latin-Americans, young children, and middle aged women. And it was great to have a host who really understood the issues since he struggled with compulsive overeating himself. National Eating Disorder Week is February 27 to March 3, so the timing is perfect.”

The ABC’s of Eating Disorders” Documentary is an intimate look at eating disorders with anorexics, bulimics and compulsive overeaters sharing their lives, stories and struggles. Health professionals from the Renfrew Center and Milestones in Recovery explain eating disorders, their causes, risks, prevention and recovery.

The documentary was made to increase awareness about eating disorders and encourage recovery. It is now also available with Spanish subtitles and easily accessible to the Latin community. It is being used by individuals, treatment centers, health professionals and schools currently.
