New documentary reveals intimate insight to life with an eating disorder

Miami, Florida-- December 1, 2004. Joanna Popper, the Producer of “The ABC”s of Eating Disorders” was interviewed on the new documentary, how to recognize an eating disorder and her own experience

Miami documentary filmmaker Joanna Popper was interviewed on the Radio Stations Voz Cristiana and Voz Crista on December 1st. She was interviewed about “The ABC’s of Eating Disorders”, a documentary film on eating disorders she made with Miami filmmaker Arne Zimmermann and Zakto Film Productions. Eating disorders are epidemic in the United States and Latin America.

In the interview, Joanna explained the symptoms of different eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating. She also revealed her own experience with an eating disorder and recovery process, as well as why they chose to make the film. Popper said, “The documentary was made to increase awareness on eating disorders, let people know they’re not alone, and encourage people to seek treatment.” She said recovery is possible and encouraged listeners suffering from these issues to make that choice. She also discusses signs for parents to be aware of if their children are suffering from an eating disorder and how to help. Popper lived in Chile and Brazil and speaks both Spanish and Portuguese.

In the documentary, anorexics, bulimics, and compulsive overeaters of all ages, ethnic groups, races and genders share their intimate experiences. In addition to stories of people with eating disorders, health professionals from treatment centers the Renfrew Center and Milestones in Recovery are interviewed on the facts on the disease, symptoms, causes and recovery.
